About event
In the middle of the 14th century, the Black Death reached Europe and did not stop even before the walls of our city.
The plague first hit the city in 1349 and since then it has returned repeatedly. The last time was in the years 1710-1713, when it claimed thousands of victims and forced the inhabitants to bury the dead in new cemeteries outside the city walls.
Bratislava wanderings will bring you closer to what life was like in Prešpork during the plague epidemics, how and when and how it all started, how the city resisted the spread of the disease, where the culprit was sought, what the quarantines meant, what was the role of the executioner, doctors and clergy and how did the daily life of the inhabitants change?
We will look beyond the city limits, we will be transported to more than one ghost town in Europe and we will also talk about other epidemics and cities that directly touched the lives of our ancestors. to the symbolism of the statues that they show us.
How did the church deal with the plague and how did people pay attention to the issued regulations? We will tell the stories of people who survived or succumbed to this disaster.
The Black Death brought a test of faith, cohesion and courage.
Prešporok has always been able to recover from it, although each wave of the plague left deep scars in it.
