About event

The trio made up of modern jazz greats was formed in 2019 at the initiative of Zakir Husain and in the same year they released their debut recording Good Hope. It consists of double bassist Dave Holland (ex-Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Bill Frisell etc.), tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain (John McLaughlin, Mickey Hart, Charles Lloyd, George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Airto Moreira, Billy Cobham) and the greatest saxophonist of his generation – Chris Potter.

Zakir Hussain – “Maestro of Indian Tabla Drums”

  • A personality of epochal significance for both modern jazz and World Music as well as the classical music of North India. Zakir Hussain founded together with John McLaughlin the line-up Shakti following the Mahavishnu Orchestra, led drumming summits with Mickey Hart from the Grateful Dead and initiated dozens of musical projects with personalities such as Charles Lloyd, George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Van Morrison, Airto Moreira, Billy Cobham , Mickey Hart and more. He comes from an elite Indian musical family - His father was Alla Rakha, a long-time partner of Ravi Shankar. He last performed in Prague with the ensemble Masters Of Percussion.

Dave Holland – “Jazz Mohykán”

  • Miles Davis brought him from Great Britain in the middle of an engagement at the famous club Ronnie Scott's, where in the late sixties Dave Holland sharpened his jazz spurs as a "house bassist" to soon become part of jazz history for the first time. He recorded three classics with Davis: Filles de Kilimanjaro, In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. Since then, he has entered the history of the genre many more times, either as a bandmate or as a bandleader. Holland discovered very early that, in addition to the ability to work in the service of musical visionaries of the caliber of Davis, Henderson, Hancock, Corey, Brecker, Metheny or Braxton, he also has a gift as a bandleader. Already in 1972, he recorded his Quartet for ECM, which appeared in many personnel changes throughout Holland's career. He was also able to metamorphose, for example, in a five-piece or an entire big band, always with an enviable staffing.

Chris Potter – "The most important saxophonist of his generation"

  • Chris Potter, currently one of the world's most famous saxophonists, draws on the playing of the greatest masters of the saxophone, to which he adds his own personal contribution and inexhaustible improvisational invention. He collaborated with a long line of important jazz artists, both from the ranks of classics and progressives, e.g. Ray Brown, Paul Motian, Jim Hall, Joe Lovan, Dave Holland, Patricia Barber and Dave Douglas. Chris Potter has won numerous jazz awards. The album Vertigo from 1998 was named jazz album of the year by the New York Times and Jazziz magazine, and for its collaboration with pianist Joanne Brackeen, it was nominated for Grammy.
