Chris Potter

Chris Potter is an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and composer. He spent most of his childhood in Columbia, South Carolina, where he attended Dreher High School. He later moved to New York, where he first studied at The New School and then at the Manhattan School of Music.

He collaborated with a long line of important jazz artists, both from the classics and progressives, e.g. Ray Brown, Paul Motian, Jim Hall, Joe Lovan, Dave Holland, Patricia Barber or Dave Douglas. Chris Potter has won numerous jazz awards. The album Vertigo from 1998 was named jazz album of the year by the New York Times and Jazziz magazine, and for its collaboration with pianist Joanne Brackeen, it was nominated for Grammy.
