About event

A three-dimensional theatrical film installation in the theater

With “geRecht” we present a sensual-analog immersive film installation in the theater. Against the backdrop of the currently unleashed migration debate, this work delves deeply into the highly complex and (still) independent world of the courts, where the effects of new asylum laws are immediately noticeable. Floor-to-ceiling, overlapping video projections, real stage elements and a multi-channel sound system create an immersive, intimate and intensive stage experience.

In episode 2 we experience a new crisis in court with judge Katharina Baumann (Corinna Harfouch). When a successful Afghan asylum seeker from yesterday suddenly finds himself under suspicion of terrorism, the principles of everyone involved are put to the test under the influence of politics and media pressure. In this situation, the judge is caught up in her past as she recognizes herself in the young Azade Jahangiri (Anke Retzlaff), who, after fleeing Afghanistan and Iran, courageously sues against the rejection of her asylum application. At the same time, she catapults the right-wing extremist daughter of an old friend into a vision of a bleak future. When she meets the young plaintiff, Judge Baumann's private and professional spheres mix. In the end, she declares the idea of justice within the German asylum system to be a myth and recognizes her personal responsibility as a judge and as a human being. But how can the bleak future be shaped by her and by all of us?
