Headbanger

Distortion, Overdrive, Fuzz, Boost. A musical performance inspired by the phenomenon of headbanging, an iconic dance figure, close to heavy musical genres and their subcultures. A new production by Terén and the D'epog art collective.

“We created a stage performance with love for the worlds of music. To their genres, subgenres and subsubgenres, to their cultures, aesthetics, icons and fetishes. It is an intense physical performance by a five-member performance group between a concert, party, light show and dance choreography, in which we are inspired by headbanging, "head shaking", a cyclically repeating dance movement, often limited to the upper half of the body or only the cervical spine. Headbanger was born out of a fascination with the theatricality and fictions of music, artistic alter egos, stage identities, costumes and sets. From the fun of going beyond what is permissible in ordinary reality, obscenity, stupid lyrics, symbolism, mythologies, pseudo-faiths and weird spiritualities, conspiracies, images of hyper-violence and hyper-sexism and commercial countercultures. Headbanger was born from the joy of collectively experiencing concerts, atmospheres and moments that force us to react physically with our own bodies. Situations in which we can be emotional, expressive and spontaneous. Situations in which we can express ourselves without exposing ourselves to evaluation. 'Headbanger' is a performance that went through a distortion pedal.”
