Hotel Continental

Hotel from the early 60s of the last century by architects Zdeněk Řihák, Vladimír Kovařík and Alois Semely belongs to the avant -garde art stream characterized as Brussels style. It met the requirements for accommodation in 124 single and 108 double rooms, in which heating and ventilation was used for the first time in the Czech Republic by high -pressure air conditioning. The three -arm ground plan had a significant advantage - it allowed one vertical node to connect short corridors and double -sided rooms, making all of them all sunlit. Corbusier -tuned colossus based on monolithic reinforced concrete frames was to serve only as a common tourist hostel, but eventually became a luxury hotel. Thanks to the sensitive approach and preservation of the original rare architectural elements, Continental is included in the list of historical buildings of the Czech Republic and has been a cultural monument since 2009.
