Hybrid Sessions: Leo Chang + Petr Tichý

Hybrid sessions is a monthly event held in Hybernská campus. The event always begins with a shorter improvisation performance of two musicians who have never played together in such a constellation and who - ideally - come from various music scenes. The concert is followed by Jam Session, which is open to all musicians regardless of genre focus. The organizers want to create an environment for creative creation in the present moment, nothing is predetermined, the only expectation is the high level of being in the present. Basic backline (drums, guitar combos, pa, piano) is provided. Musician, improviser, composer and sound artist based in New York. Leo, instructed by his temporary experience, plays with sounds, instruments, forms and social practices outside their original context. It does so by electronic sound and sound design, performance, individual and group improvisation, graphic notation and textual scores. Over the past six years, he has focused on building electronic sets derived from Korean folk practices and instruments. For example, he built an instrument where he intensifies Korean gongs (historically used in folk, shamanic and courtyard music) using converters and resonates with his voice, microphone feedback and other processed sound input. Among other things, he plays on the electroacoustic contraband his own design made by the violin -maker Jiří Petlach. During his studies at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and the Jazz Department of the Prague HAMU (with professors Petr Kořínek, Jaromír Honzák and Jiří Slavík, courses with Miroslav Vitouš) he joined the Prague Jazz scene, where he still works.
