About event
Who were Vlaši, how did they influence the form of old Prague and where was the Italian neighborhood? The expression of Vlachy was formerly called the Northern Italy region around Lake Como. In the past, our ancestors called Vlaše to the Italians who settled in the Czech Republic. They were mainly aristocrats, scholars and many artists and craftsmen. Names like Caratti, Lurago, Santini, Gallas, Piccolomini can be found in virtually all publications on Prague, as their wearers were among the most prominent builders of the Renaissance and Baroque. This walk will lead from Hradčany to Malá Strana, to places around Vlašská Street, where there are beautiful palaces and other distinctive buildings that remained here. The guide will also reveal what fates were hidden behind the names and which were permanently from Italian families in the Czech Republic.
