About event
The Janoušek-Wróblewski Quartet will perform on October 31 at Unijazz.
Štěpán Janoušek (trombone), Michal Wróblewski (saxophone), Miloš Klápště (double bass), Jan Chalupa (drums ). JWQ is an acoustic quartet combining improvised music with compositions from the workshop of both brass players. The quartet was originally fundamentally influenced by New York's jazz downtown (Sex Mob, Medeski-Martin-Wood, Bobby Previte, Ray Anderson, Marty Ehlrich), over time this direct inspiration partially disappeared and the quartet became a group "stealing from so many sources shame”. The compositions are eclectic, the music draws from different traditions, everything is connected by total improvisation. In October 2022, the group released a second album: A stressed-out koala bear on the edge of his strength accidentally burns himself in a forest fire in search of happiness. In March 2019, the band released their debut virtual double album Svatby/Plesy. Another record, the second album, was released in October 2021, which reflects the band's concerts, when the band freely connects improvised and composed pieces into some kind of long units - in this case, two LP sides. Štěpán Janoušek has been a trombone teacher at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory for many years, and occasionally teaches at the Frýdlant and Prague Jazz Workshops. He won the worldwide trombone competition J.J. Competition, as a trombonist and singer he works in the bands Marz, Skety, Concept Art Orchestra, Jazzdock Orchestra, is a member of the Farma v jeskyn theater company, collaborates with the Berg contemporary music ensemble as a member of the orchestra and as a soloist. Michal Wróblewski is a saxophonist who, in addition to JWQ, leads the ensembles E Converso, Nejtek-Klápště-Wróblewski, Swomp and the Norwegian-Czech trio KIAP, which he founded while studying in Oslo. In addition, he is a member of the improv duo Karm (with German guitarist Torsten Papenheim) and the gypsy-jazz band Futur Swing. He also works as a composer of contemporary music, dramaturg of the Jazz Goes to Town festival and pedagogue (HAMU, JAMU, Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory, ZUŠ Kouřim). Miloš Klápště is a bassist who currently works in the bands of Aneta Langerová, Dorota Barová, Beata Hlavenková and the group Tryptych. In the past, he collaborated with, for example, Nerez, Richard Muler, Sisa Feherová or the band Voila. In addition to double bass, he also plays bass guitar and synthesizers. Jan Chalupa is a popular drummer. He cooperates with the Farma v jeskyni theater association, is a member of the Talaqpo, E Converso ensembles, a frequent guest of the Prague Improvisation Orchestra, and was previously a member of the Jananas band. He studied at JAMU, HAMU and the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory, and also works as a teacher.
