Kristina Barta (křest alba)

The project Kristina Barta’s Red Landscape represents a distinctive and energetic grouping of the contemporary European jazz scene led by pianist, composer and bandleader Kristina Barta (MgA. Kristýna Urbánková Bárta). The quintet is based on strong original work and the extraordinary interplay of five distinctive musicians, whose interaction creates tension, depth and spontaneous freedom. The music of the project is based on a deep understanding of the jazz tradition and the classical roots of its leader, which are transformed here into a modern, open and internationally comprehensible musical language. The compositions combine lyricism with rhythmic energy, structured form with improvisational openness, and personal statement with a wider cultural context.

The album Red Landscape connects contemporary jazz with elements of Czech history and identity. It brings original compositions on the theme of crossing borders – musical, geographical and human – as well as new arrangements of selected songs, including the iconic "Prayer for Martha", a symbol of civic courage, or adaptations of Ukrainian folk melodies.

The project thus naturally oscillates between intimate intimacy and strong social subtext. Part of the quintet is the internationally respected saxophonist Jure Pukl, a prominent figure of the New York jazz scene, whose experience from a long-term stay in the USA brings to the group another dimension of sound and improvisational openness.
