Kristina Barta

Kristina Barta, real name Kristýna Urbánková Bárta, is a Czech jazz pianist and composer, whose music is an excellent example of modern European jazz drawing on a unique mixture of classical music and unplayed jazz innovations. Barta began her musical journey as an oboist studying at the Jan Neruda Gymnasium and later devoted herself to piano and composition at the Academy of Musical Arts.

She became a prominent member of the Euroradio Jazz Orchestra. Her music could be heard by listeners all over Europe thanks to prestigious festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Jazzahead! and many others. Her talent has also been recognized in a number of prestigious awards, including first place in the Jazz Composers Competition in the Czech Republic in 2016, the finals of the Euroradio Jazz Competition in the Netherlands and the prize for exceptional piano skills at the Powiew Festival Młodego Jazz in Poland in 2017.

With two albums EMA29 and Love and Passion Barta recently released her latest album Endless Questions and Answers, in collaboration with the world-renowned saxophonist Jure Pukle.

Currently, Barta is working on several new albums not only for his quartet but also for the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with guitarist David A prostitute and saxophonist Jure Puklem. In 2024, she founded her own chamber format jazz festival called Prague Impro Room.
