About event

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a child prodigy and as an adult a musician employed in the archbishop's band in his native Salzburg. He only broke free from the ties there for the last ten years of his life, which he spent as a free musician striving for an audience, social recognition and livelihood. Although he faced financial difficulties, from an artistic point of view it was the peak period of his work, in which he had success as an author, especially of operas, and as a performer. Together with Haydn and Beethoven, he became the most typical representative of Viennese musical classicism, but with his individual creative approach to stimuli and to compositional norms, he exceeded his time in many ways. In the first half of the 1980s, already in Vienna, he wrote an extensive Mass in C minor, which he then premiered in Salzburg. It happened during a visit when he came to introduce his new wife to his father. Later, in 1788, he wrote a pair of fundamentally different master symphonies within a few weeks – the fortieth in the darker key of G minor and the following forty-first in the exuberant key of C major. Conductor Václav Luks is a Czech specialist in the historically informed interpretation of early music, the founder and artistic director of the period instrument orchestra Collegium 1704. The connection of the radio symphonists with him and the vocal part of his ensemble promises in both of Mozart's works an extraordinary intersection of the use of modern instruments with the exciting aesthetics of reviving the former sound and of musical expression.

Program:
