Pivovar Starobrno

Starobrno brewery, which has been in the same place in Hlinky near Mendlova Square, has been standing since 1872, has become an increasingly popular cruise destination. Gradually, the Starobrno brewery became the largest brewery in Moravia and the third largest in the Czech Republic - just after Pilsen and Smíchov. Success was then suspended by World War II. The bombing hit 20 November 1944, especially the malt house. Bednána and all steam, water, electricity and sewerage inlet were also damaged. Before the brewery could recover from war damage, another blow came. Communist coup and nationalization. For many years, almost nothing was invested in the brewery, which was influenced by its overall condition and beer production. After many years of war and socialism, the brewery was exhausted. After 1989, the brewery was taken over by foreign capital, first by the Austrian group Brauunion Österreich, which subsequently fell under the multinational company Heineken, which is still today. These are more construction -connected objects of irregular ground plan. Northwest of the malt house, the central part of the premises with the main production facilities, including the brewhouse in front and the former fermentation and warehouses in the central space, stands across the Malt House Street. East of the entrance to the area from Hlinky Street there is a storeyed office building. In the upper northern part of the area there is a new building filling of bottles and cylindrical tanks. Outside the main area on the western slope of the yellow hill stands the building of the former water reservoir with a guard house. It served as a fridge and was connected to the ground lift. Especially in the 2nd PP there are apparent architectural elements and remains of the historical manor brewery of the Old Brno monastery, to which the oldest vertical forest was later added. The brewery all the time of its existence is brewing beer in the same place - in the former brickworks under the yellow hill.
