About event
The Schlippenbach/Walsdorff Quartet was founded in 2013 by Alexander von Schlippenbach (piano) and Henrik Walsdorff (alto saxophone).
The idea of the band is to represent the entire spectrum of modern progressive jazz and to highlight those components that are unique to all directions of the genre.
Part of the program consists of pieces that are freely improvised. In the best free jazz tradition, there are no agreements and the musicians themselves do not always know what to expect when playing together.
Another part of the program consists of classic, albeit rarely played, pieces of modern jazz, compositions by Thelonious Monk, Herbie Nichols and Eric Dolphy.
At the heart of the music, however, are old and new original compositions by Alexander von Schlippenbach, which contain both fully composed passages as well as free elements and thus the connection between traditional jazz and free playing
