Sportovní a plavecký areál TJ Tesla

The sports and swimming area of TJ Tesla on Lesná can rightly be considered one of the most prominent brutalist buildings in Brno. The project was developed by Stavoprojekt in Brno. Between 1973-82, the building was built by citizens' self-help in Action Z, presenting the second long-lasting construction event included in the program of towns and villages in Czechoslovakia (the construction of the Brno sports hall Rondo). With a children's outdoor paddling pool, it took the form of two halls covered with a characteristic sagged rope roof, the construction of which is based on thin steel binders held by metal masts. The author of the building was the architect Viktor Rudiš, who worked with the structural engineer Zdeněk Musil, who participated in the construction of the rope roofs, and architect Dagmar Glosová, who dealt with the interior solution and design solutions to settled glazed areas in the building cloak, which copy the cropped shape of the rope roof and are burdened with its pressure. In contrast to the metal roof and glass surfaces, the exterior and interior were used square ceramic tiles. In 2001, partial modernization of the building took place, for example the volleyball hall gained a new floor covering. In 2010, the Tesla Open House Brno 2023 sports and swimming grounds were reconstructed. opening.
