Z učeben ke hvězdám: Arcibiskupské gymnázium

The functionalist building by the architect Tomáš Šašek from 1937-1938 impresses at first sight with its elegant rounded corner and unique astronomical dome on the roof. In its time, the observatory was an extremely progressive element that emphasized the importance of science education for girls as well.



During the tour, visitors will have a look at interiors designed with an emphasis on light, space and daily comfort for students. They will learn how the school functioned during the First Republic, what its fate was during the communist era and how it is returning to its original mission today. The tour will include a visit to the original auditorium and the modern school chapel.

The guide will be Tom Bílý. The profit from this event goes to support the activities of the non-profit organization Open House Praha, z. ú.

Practical information:

• The meeting place is before entering the gymnasium (under the stairs on sidewalk)
• The building is not wheelchair accessible, expect a large number of stairs and consider your physical fitness.
• For safety reasons, we ask visitors to be extra careful, moving around the building is at their own risk.
• We ask that visitors do not come with small children (or pets).
