claire rousay

In an interview with the New York Times, Claire Rousay states that today's experimental scene is too limited, that there are a lot of rules in it, because of which it is no longer experimental at all. In the end, she asks herself how she could change it. With the work of Rousay, based in San Antonio, Texas, labels such as emo ambient or hyperpop emo emerged in recent years, with which she worked her way into all the major world charts (The Wire, Pitchfork, The Quietus, Boomkat). This is well illustrated by her confession in the song Im Not a Bad Person But…, where she says that Avril Lavigne's Let Go is better than Coltrane's Giant Steps em>. Her subtle whispers, field recordings from the bathroom or intimate diary entries are just as far from endless ambient surfaces as they are from big-mouthed electroacoustic experiments. It focuses on sounds that are connected to daily routine, urban and natural sound environments that sound from somewhere far away, supplemented with vocal autotune fragments or delicate piano miniatures. That's what Claire Rousay's music sounds like.
