Michaela Zajmi

Mezzo-soprano Michaela Zajmi (née Kapustová), born in Brno, is a graduate of the Prague Conservatory from the class of prof. Yvony Skvárová. She successfully participated in several singing competitions during and after her studies. In autumn 2009, she achieved the highest award at the 44th Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, in several categories. She won the 3rd prize in the field of opera-women and also the 3rd prize in the field of song. She also received the Antonín Dvořák Society Award for the best interpretation of A. Dvořák's song Dejte klec estřábu and the Special Prize of the J.K. Tylo Theater in Pilsen. She also became a laureate of the international Leoš Janáček Prize Competition (EMCY), received 1st prize at the Competition Show of the Conservatories of the Czech Republic in Pardubice and 1st prize at the International Prague Singer Competition. Already during her studies, she participated in Master's courses with Peter Dvorský in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou and was selected for a series of concerts for the best participants of the Exchange of Young Singers. She made her theater debut with the role of Rosina in Lazebník of Seville at the J.K. Tyl Theater in Plzeň, followed by other roles at the National Theater in Brno, the National Theater in Prague, the South Bohemian Theater in České Budějovice and the Moravian-Silesian National Theater in Ostrava. In 2010, she was nominated for the Thalia Award for her outstanding stage performance in the role of Angelina in Rossini's opera La Cenerentola at the National Theater in Brno, and in 2013 she was nominated for the role of Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti's opera Anna Bolena at the National Theater of Moravia-Silesia.
