Moravská galerie v Brně

The Moravian Gallery in Brno is the second largest art museum in the Czech Republic and is exceptional in its scope. As the only art museum in the Czech Republic, it deals with art culture in a completely comprehensive manner. He works both with free art, i.e. painting, drawing, graphics and sculpture from the earliest period to the present, as well as with photography, applied art, graphic design and architecture. The Moravian Gallery in Brno is a research organization whose main purpose is to carry out basic research, applied research or experimental development and disseminate their results through teaching, publishing or technology transfer.

Its history begins as early as 1818 with the founding of the Franciscan Museum , which included the picture gallery from the beginning. Then in 1961, when the Picture Gallery of the Moravian State Museum merged with the Moravian Museum of Applied Arts (founded in 1873), the newly created institution connecting liberal and applied arts acquired its current name – the Moravian Gallery in Brno.

The Moravian Gallery in Brno presents the artistic culture of the territory of the Czech Republic in a European context, both in permanent exhibitions and through short-term exhibitions. This effort is also related to cooperation with a number of domestic and foreign institutions and participation in international projects. Exhibitions and expositions are enriched by an accompanying program in the form of lectures, guided tours of exhibitions, workshops, concerts and performances designed for all visitor groups. Special emphasis is placed on the children's audience, the openness of the museum is also evidenced by the establishment of a collection of works of art for the blind and partially sighted and related exhibition projects.
