Tomáš Liška
Tomáš Liška is a Czech double bassist, bassist and composer. In terms of genre, he moves between jazz, blues, Balkan music and folk. Tomáš's debut solo album Invisible World (2009 Animal Music) received the Tais Awards for the most original recording of 2009 and was nominated for the Angel Award.
He often performs with his band Invisible World, which consists of an international line-up: Serbian accordionist Nikola Zarić, Turkish violinist Efe Turumtay and Czech drummer Kamil Slezák.
He studied double bass at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague and at the prestigious Jazz Institute Berlin under the guidance of renowned American players and pedagogues Greg Cohen and John Hollenbeck. He performs at jazz festivals and concert halls throughout Europe, the United States, Latin America and Africa and has won several awards from major jazz festivals in Poland, Belgium and Spain. His key collaborators are David Dorůžka, Steve Walsh, Druhá trava, Beáta Hlavenková, Cyrille Oswald, Marta Topferová, Lenka Dusilová, Eternal Seekers, Dan Tepfer, Mark Aanderud, and many others.
