Isabella Sarto-Jackson (KLI)
Isabella Sarto-Jackson is a neurobiologist, managing director of the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research and vice president of the Austrian Society for Neuroscience. After completing a diploma in genetics and a doctorate in neurobiochemistry, she worked as a scientist at the Center for Brain Research at the Medical University of Vienna for eight years. In 2010 she expanded her research activities into cognitive sciences and finally took over the management of the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in 2011. Since 2015 she has been a lecturer in cognitive science at the University of Vienna and since 2018 she has been teaching as a guest lecturer as part of the newly designed “Cognitive Biology” curriculum at Comenius University in Bratislava. She is editor of the journal Biological Theory (Springer Verlag), speaker at the Urania Vienna and chairwoman of the education committee of the International Society for the History, Philosophy and Sociology of Biology. She has been involved in the field of social education for several years, holding further training courses at the College of Social Education and public, interdisciplinary workshops for social workers and social educators. Her scientific interest lies in the interdisciplinary combination of neurobiology, cognitive sciences, evolutionary biology and social pedagogy.
