Keilecollectief

The Keile Collective is a group of professionals with a heart for the city, who are committed to a better living environment. Their base is the Keilepand in M4H (Makers District) Rotterdam. Since 2018, the KeileCollectief has been organizing AANKEILEN!, a mix of lecture and debate in which major social themes such as energy transition, climate adaptation and circularity are linked to the local current affairs of M4H. M4H is a mixed-used port area in transition, in which between 3,500 and 5,000 homes will be built in the next 15 years. PICK UP! is organized 3 times a year, and per edition consists of 4 Tuesday evenings, during which a different theme is always addressed in a mix of lecture and debate.

Next to KEEPING! Keilepand Open Days are also regularly organized, such as during the upcoming Architecture Day on June 19 and Open Office Days on June 26, 2021. The Keilepand is a former transshipment warehouse with a special concrete construction from 1922 that was transformed by a group of pioneers in 2016 into a modern multifunctional building with space to work, create and meet. GROUP A and StudioADAMS are some of the initiators of the KeileCollectief and are responsible for the design and coordination of the transformation. In November 2019, the 14,500 m2 historic building was acquired from the municipality of Rotterdam, paving the way for further sustainability and expansion. Since then, the previously vacant spaces have been converted into new office spaces and an exhibition space that is, among other things, the central location for the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) edition. The final exhibition IABR: DOWN TO EARTH: RECLAIMING THE COMMONS opens on June 9 in the new KeileZaal. The PAST FUTURES OF M4H exhibition about 100 years of transition of the area will open in September.

The entrepreneurs based in the Keilepand are active as designers, makers, technicians or work in food production and distribution. In addition to studioADAMS and GROUP A, these are De Urbanisten, HP architects, NIEMAN De Raadgevend Ingenieurs, Woodwave, SANT Interiors, Brandsing furniture makers, Neoliet, Rechtstreex, Kaapse Brouwers, Blije Wijnen, Cider Cider, Shokunin, Booij cheese makers, BAIN Kombucha, Food Union Rotterdam (FUR), IABR and Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven architects.
