Verdiho Requiem (O)

in connection with the three great authors of Italian Belcant - Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti - Giuseppe Verdi came up with other music and singing stimuli, especially with the deepening of psychologizing opera characters and scenes. He fully liberated the melody of his predecessors for a rich service to dramatic situations. In the same spirit, this realist and romantic composed in 1873 Requiem, setting up the text of the Catholic Mass for the deceased. Especially in the art of containing a wide range of expression from meditative silence to extrovert contrasts, however, does not deny the theater author. His Messa da Requiem combines religious opulence, greatness and humility with opera dramatism and passions, and thus, in particular, the paintings of judicial day, as well as a lyrical call to the lamb of God, probably make this work the most opaque musical mass. The monumental sacral composition, which has long since become a purely concert affair, gave respect to the personality and work of the Italian national poet and humanist Alessandra Manzoni. On the occasion of the first anniversary of his death, the composer conducted the premiere of his Requiem. It took place in the Church of St. Mark in Milan.
